In Ludbreg, the “center of the world”, all four elements of existence come together: fire, water, earth and air. The people of Ludbreg, as excellent winegrowers and descendants of Ludberga, add a fifth element to them – sparkling Ludbreg wine, which is only poured from a fountain in the center of the world, every April 1st.

Since 1997, the fountain has stood in the main town square where, on the day of the World Center Day celebration, it was used to pour wine.

Today it is placed on the so-called Ludberga’s spring, not far from the Island of Youth along the Bednja river, a place where salty and flammable water springs up, or, if the legend is to be believed, where Ludberga dealt with the “unholy”. The unusual appearance of the “Lighthouse to the World” fountain represents a combination of fire and water and is the work of author Paul Wiedmer.
