Rijeka Bednja

Bednja River

Bednja river is the longest river whose source and delta are in Croatia. It originates near Trakošćan and, winding through Varaždin County and passing through the very center of Ludbreg, after 133 km, it flows into the Drava river near Mali Bukovac.

In the immediate vicinity of Ludbreg, a fifteen-minute walk from the city center across the greenery of the Island of Youth, there is an old dam that controls the water level of Bednja and protects Ludbreg from floods, and in addition, due to its photogenic nature, it has the role of a popular “photo spot”. It is possible to paddle a kayak or canoe on Bednja, and the braver and more skilled can go all the way down to the mouth of the Drava.
